Over the past 100 years, ArcelorMittal Dofasco has been committed to the prosperity and well being of the greater communities of Hamilton, Ontario in Canada.

Not far from the heart of the steel mill is a quiet neighbourhood on Wentworth St North that is bustling with industry, surrounded by railway tracks and shipping ports and embraces a host of newcomers. This community has been served by an organization for the past 25 years called the Inner City Outreach Ministry.

The Outreach Ministry have hosted over 2,500 kids in the inner city. Being in one of Hamilton’s poorest communities with one of highest crime rates, the director of the program (an ArcelorMittal employee) called upon the support of one of its friendly neighbours – ArcelorMittal Dofasco. Employees have volunteered for the past 25 years by helping to run programs, delivering Christmas hampers, volunteering countless hours, driving children to camp and donating truck loads of coats, clothes and food. In addition, they have donated funds for the past 11 years so that over 220 children can enjoy a camping experience for a week in the country. The cafeteria has also hosted a BBQ the past five years to raise funds for camping. All without seeking any recognition. Their only reward is to know that they have invested in the future of a young person, who may in turn grow up to be one of the shining leaders in our city.

In collaboration with Founding Director, Don (and Carole) MacVicar
