GMB, BOD and the new employee

In only my first month at ArcelorMittal, I have experienced a successful Q1 results day, a Health & Safety Day and been part of the ‘behind the scenes’ team that organizes these events.  Having never been to an ArcelorMittal AGM, I didn’t know what to expect; though I knew it would have a lighter atmosphere than last year’s.

Acting as one of the internal reporters at the event, I was not sure of my role apart from watching from the sidelines and taking photos and notes. Imagine my surprise when some of the Group Management Board and Board of Directors noticed another colleague from the Editorial Team and myself as they walked up to take their places on stage – and stopped to have a chat to us!  The top management of the 28th largest company in the world takes the time out to talk to a new employee on one of the busiest days of the year!

The AGM itself was focused, as always, but relaxed. The first hour was announcements and presentation of resolutions by Mr Mittal, Chairman and CEO,  followed by another hour of questions from shareholders and of course voting on the resolutions. All resolutions were passed with a 90% or over majority. There were even some lighter moments with jokes from Mr Mittal.

The event was well attended, with many members of the press also present, who caught Mr Mittal at the end for a few questions and a chat. The Casino at the ‘Chateau’ (as our Liberté building is fondly nicknamed) was abuzz at the Shareholders Lunch held after the meeting. After a quick canapé or two, I found myself rushing back to our Petrusse office to write it all up…
