Food, fun and art… the ArcelorMittal way
“We don’t want just food. We want food, fun and art.” This is what the Brazilian rock band Titãs sang back in 1987… and this is what our Group is helping to provide to young people in the state of Espirito Santo, one of the most violent in Brazil.
Our colleague Sidemberg Rodrigues, ArcelorMittal Tubarão manager and regional representative of the ArcelorMittal Foundation, recently gave the opening lecture of the II International Symposium of the Brazilian Academy of Human Rights, with the presence of renowned jurists from Brazil and Europe. There Sidemberg talked about 2 projects supported by our Group: one (Empao) focuses on protecting youngsters against risks through art; the other is centered in assisting people in prison for a successful reintegration into society.
“Very few companies want to put their investments in adolescents who are in trouble with the law,” says Silvana Galina, president of Iases, Social-Educational Assistance Institute of Espirito Santo.
Despite the results, Sidemberg wishes to remind us that the role of social responsibility goes beyond investing in projects. “The success of the ArcelorMittal Tubarão corporate social action has also to do with the management and workforce commitment, who engage in external actions using their expertise, broadening the results of the investment in social projects”.

Im my opinion the role of Corporate Social Responsability is being developed in the right way by ArcelorMittal Tubarão. We are really located in one region where it is really necessary to addopt actions to move against the power of drugs and criminality. These kinds of initiatives the Sidemberg is leading here are giving chance for many people to recover hopeness and dignity.
Congratulations for Sidemberg and his team for his engagement.

I feel honored to see someone doing such an important job, which is helping people who are judged as useless by society. Some of them never had the chance of getting directions, limits or even caress from their parents. That is the reason many of them fall in troubles. These projects make our world a better place to live.
Congratulations!
