Amazing steelmakersSome months ago we travelled virtually via this blog to many countries to meet colleagues belonging to our Steel Generations series. Now on our intranet we are close to ending a new human face series: Amazing ArcelorMittal People. For a couple of months, we have received dozens of candidates proposed by their own colleagues. All of them very different, but with one thing in common: in challenging times, these ‘amazings’ maintained their performance excellence plus a high dose of motivation. Let’s meet a few of them…

After joining the Company 35 years ago, María Teresa Garay Aguirre, switchboard operator at ArcelorMittal Bergara, is about to retire. But until D-Day, the voice of ArcelorMittal Bergara’ continues to radiate happiness by spreading motivation around her.

At ArcelorMittal Piombino, Italy, we meet Country Treasurer Matteo Bianconi. What he likes most about his job is its diversity: “It really broadens my perspective. Diversity keeps us alert and helps to continuously improve our skills.”

Randy Booker is a Planning and Scheduling Coach at ArcelorMittal Dofasco. “When the going gets tough, the motivated keep going! I think this personifies Randy,” said Tony Newport, one of Randy’s colleagues. But what is it that motivates him? “The professionalism of the people I interact with,” Randy explains.

Finally, we travel to ArcelorMittal Annaba, Algeria, to meet maintenance operator Abdallah Derraji. Renowned for his discipline and his great professionalism, Abdallah also has a strong commitment towards Health and Safety. “I believe in cleanliness at work and the use of PPE (personal protective equipment)!” Abdallah explains.
