ArcelorMittal colleague and his friends save a girl from the seaSaturday night in a coast town in the South of France. 3 friends, one of them an ArcelorMittal colleague, come back from a party organised on a sea wall. When their boat is at the dock, someone alerts them: a girl is drowning some hundred meters away! They start up the engine again and try to find her in the darkness…

All this happened on July 25, sometime before 2am in Sète. The girl can now explain this story thanks in part to Eric Foultier, who works in Paris for Commercial Sections France. He was spending the weekend in the seaside town, from where his family originates.

“It was hard to see where the girl was, but once we spotted her, 2 of us jumped into the water, while another one stayed on the boat,” Eric explains. “Once we brought the girl into the boat, it took her a few minutes to completely recover, as she had swallowed a lot of water.”

Eric and his friends were in the newspaper – the new local heros! But on that night, only one thing mattered: “Everything happened very quickly; we didn’t think about it – we just wanted to save her,” Eric tells us. “Once it was over, I felt very happy and satisfied with what we did.”

This story is clear proof of ArcelorMittal’s people commitment to Health and Safety: at work, at home… and even in the sea! Merci et félicitations (thanks and congratulations), Eric !
