IT specialist from ArcelorMittal Tubarão undefeated in Worker World Tennis Championship
Our Brazilian colleagues keep on collecting successes from the other side of the Ocean – from Algeria, where we met Douglas Cardoso, to Finland, where Tubarão IT specialist Claudia Rios returns from the Worker World Tennis Championship where Claudia finished undefeated.
After winning all matches, both for single and mixed doubles, Claudia, who is 42, finished 2nd in the CSIT 2009 World Tennis championship. The competition was held in Tampere, the 2nd biggest town in Finland, from June 10-13. The event reunited 150 athletes from different clubs and organisations from all over the world. Claudia defeated players from France, Denmark, Finland and even Austria – considered the tournament favourite, winning against players who were 20 years younger than her!
Her excellent result, however, was not enough to ensure her the first place. The event is organized by teams/countries and her first place depended on the results of the team as a whole, which was not possible due to the high technical level of some of the other adversaries. Brazil got the vice-championship for the memorable work of the team and brought home the silver medal.
What is Claudia’s secret? “My physical preparation, the frequent technical trainings and the continuous support of ArcelorMittal Tubarão, not only in terms of health care, but also in the search for quality of life as a whole, have been paramount in my victories”, she tells us. Not to forget a final ingredient! “The indispensable team spirit that characterises our country,” Claudia concludes.
Parabéns (congratulations), Claudia!
