Steel generations XV – Meet Douglas Cardoso
“My name is Douglas Cardoso. I’m currently Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for ArcelorMittal’s operations in Algeria, responsible for Controlling, Accounting, Treasury, Legal, Tax, Insurance, IT and Telecoms. My grandfather – José Cardoso – worked for ArcelorMittal Brazil all his life and retired in July 1969, the very same month and year that I was born. In 1987, it was my turn to join the Group, which made him very proud…
The steel sector – and especially ArcelorMittal –became an inherent part of my family’s history 70 years ago. I was born in Brazil, in a city – João Monlevade – which was literally built up thanks to this Company: the hospital, houses, water supply… everything was built by the Group.
I have been working for this Company for almost all my life: around 19 years in Brazil, almost 3 years in Luxembourg, and now I’m completing my 9th month in Algeria. And I can already say that, just like my grandfather, I intend to continue working for this Company until my retirement.
Mobility has played a crucial role in my career. For me it was a very rich and instigating opportunity and I believe it is one of the greatest assets of this Company. Here, we have expats from 6 different countries. Working in such a multicultural team makes the atmosphere better and we also have a lot of exchanges with local employees.
Steel demand has decreased all over the world, and in Algeria things have been no different. Today, more than ever, we need to use all our expertise and knowledge to work as a team in order to improve our Company’s results. This obviously means a lot of work, but those challenges make our job even more interesting.”

I’m very proud to know Mr. Cardoso. I was born in the same city in Brazil. My father was co-worker of his grandfather at ArcelorMittal Monlevade. My father retired in 1973 after 29 years working for “Belgo Mineira”, today ArcelorMittal Monlevade. I wish to Mr. Cardoso success in your career. Our city, João Monlevade, is proud of him due his growth in the ArcelorMittal group.
God blesses him.
Following tradition, I work in the steel group since 1985 in Timoteo – Arcelormittal Inox Brasil.

And I´d also like to express my happness in knowing that Mr. Cardoso has been growing in this company.

Dear Douglas, I’d like to congratulate you for your success.
I am very proud of you and sometimes I remember our old times when we worked hard to implement the Daily Work Routine Management in Utility Department of Monlevade Steel Plant. Regards
