A cleaner environment for the citizens of GalaţiOne of the most demanding commitments made to the management of Galaţi plant (Romania) by the environmental authorities was the completion of a de-dusting system for our main steelmaking shop. Some innovative technical solutions, a great deal of hard-work during 14 months and almost 20 million dollars were necessary to bring this ambitious project to a good end…

Today, we can say that it has been a success: Local authorities, some state dignitaries and high officials from the Group acknowledged this for a fact. And if it hadn’t been for the complete involvement of our local workers and engineers, such as the colleague in the picture, this achievement could not have been possible!

The installation was built in order to significantly reduce the dust and gas emissions resulted from the hot metal overtaken from the blast furnaces, during the discharge of the Torpedo wagons into the ladles and then into the converters. These 2 processes used to convey a red cloud above the steelmaking shop.

“Now, as a result of this investment, the gas emissions released into the atmosphere have been reduced by more then 90% and we, the people working in this production facility, are able to feel the difference by breathing a cleaner air,” says Grigore Cornel, engineer within the Maintenance Service of the steelmaking shop no.1. Congratulations to the Galati team!
