Steel generations IV: Meet Lynn Taylor

“My name is Lynn Taylor, and I work as a general accountant at ArcelorMittal Burns Harbor, USA. Both my grandfathers, Joseph Furman and Frank Kolarczyk Sr., used to work in the steel industry. My father, Frank Kolarczyk Jr., currently works at ArcelorMittal Indiana Harbor. They were happy when I told them that I wanted to work in steel as well…
I think that steel runs in my family from generation to generation because the steel industry has offered a lot of opportunities and good paying jobs that have provided my family as well as many others with food, a roof over their head and the ability to pay for an education for their children.
As a general accountant, my primary tasks include functions such as payroll bank statement reconciliations, journal entry preparation and accruals for payroll and labor entries, but also month-end close activities and providing other miscellaneous reports to management such as labor cost metrics and headcount trends.
The current global crisis has undoubtedly impacted my team in a dramatic way. The recent layoffs have pushed more work for us as we are now doing the accounting functions for other units like ArcelorMittal International, which we haven’t had to do in the past.
I hope that there will be a tremendous turnaround in the economy so that Ryan, my 3 year old son, and other future generations can one day follow our footsteps and have a good future in the steel industry.”
