Steel generations III: Meet Jose Ramon Pinan
“My name is José Ramón Piñán and I work at ArcelorMittal Asturias, in Spain, at the Flat Products Quality department. I am responsible for the mechanical tests of heavy plates and rails. My father had already worked in this company, as did an uncle. Currently I also have 3 cousins working here. This seems to be a family tradition!
I’ve been working in this company for 35 years now. During all these years, we have had different names, but one thing has not changed: we are still a big company devoted to making steel.
I have many reasons to be grateful to this Group: thanks to the salary I’ve received during all this time, I have made my life and a family.
The global economic crisis has not affected us much until now, if only by a slight decline of the workload, due to the reduction of orders in the heavy plate mill. The rail mill is currently working at 100% capacity.
I have a daughter, and I would like her to work in steel. However, she is studying Tourism, so I don’t think her steps will take her here… but one can never know! I just want her to work on something that makes her happy, is safe and allows her to earn her life very well. As for my cousins and me, we hope to keep on working in this Group.”
