Steel generations II – Meet Claude Forget
Continuing our series of ‘steel families’, we travel virtually from the US to Luxembourg to have a chat with Claude Forget. Himself a full-time safety delegate at ArcelorMittal Rodange & Schifflange, Claude’s father and grandfather both worked in the industry… and his son has just begun a steel career.
Luxembourg houses the headquarters of ArcelorMittal – and for a reason: the long and successful history of the steel industry in the small ‘Grand Duchy’, situated at the heart of Europe.
This industrial history runs parallel to the history of the Forget family: Claude’s grandfather worked in steel casting and his father was a worker representative. “Today, my son works at Rodange as well,” Claude tells us.
After finishing his mechanical studies and working in the automotive industry for a while, Claude followed the family tradition by joining ArcelorMittal Rodange in 1986. Here, he takes care of our number 1 priority: the safety of our people.
“The steel industry has known several ups and downs since I joined in 1986. During the down period, I was appointed to several positions, mainly in maintenance, which allowed me to better familiarise myself with our facilities and their related dangers”, he explains.
“As a safety delegate, my role is to listen to staff’s problems, technical as well as those related to their well-being at work, and to transmit this information to the heads of each service, to advise them on the application of security rules.”
Merci, Claude – with such respect for our Health and Safety principles, we hope to see many more steel generations to come!
