Steely female team from Galati, in the elite of handball
The ladies handball team ‘Otelul’ (‘Steel’ in Romanian), supported by ArcelorMittal Galati, entered in the elite of this sport after the qualification in the quarterfinals of the ’Winners Cup’ organised by the European Handball Federation. With more than 1,200 people crowded in the largest sports hall of the city to encourage their favorite team… The heat was on!
On February 8, 2009 the handball players played in the 1st round of the double confrontation with the Hungarian team, ’Aquaticum’ Debrecen, and lost by 5 goals.
A week later, the Galati team succeeded to gain victory at home, and since they had a better score in the 1st match, they qualified among the 1st of 8 European handball ladies teams of the ‘Winners Cup’.
The victory of the steelmakers’ team was achieved in the last seconds of the game, accompanied by the storm of cheering of the numerous attendees in the sports hall, but also to the joy of the hundreds of thousands of viewers of the main sports TV channel from Romania.
“We are happy to support this wonderful team, winning more and more remarkable performances in their field. This is just 1 of the projects we have been rolling our to support the community of Galati, not only when and where there are problems to be solved, but also to be a partner wherever there is excellence”, said Augustine Kochuparampil, CEO ArcelorMittal Galati.
