US steel industry reduces emissions by 67% in 10 years
The environmental efforts of the US steel industry are making a positive impact – according to recent reports, the sector’s emissions declined 67% between 1995 and 2006. The energy intensity per ton of steel shipped has been reduced by 33% since 1990, surpassing the Kyoto target of 7%. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), steel industry emissions declined 67% in the US between 1995 and 2006. With this amazing figure, the American steel industry stands out as having the steepest reduction in emissions… out of 9 manufacturing sectors!
In addition to emission declines, the United States steel industry has reduced its energy intensity per ton of steel shipped by 33% since 1990, as recently reported by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
