In your parents’ (working) shoes… for just 1 day
On October 30, our Stainless site of Genk, in Belgium, invited the employees’ children for a guided visit of the plant. A unique opportunity for these young people to discover where their mother or father works!
Around 40 children, all born in 1992, accepted the invitation. Passive listening and looking in the factory was regularly interspersed with action: extinguishing a dummy on fire, driving the roller bridge, using a semi-automatic welder, packing rolls of steel… All in all, it was a very full day!
Our Genk colleagues wanted to give the youngsters an attractive introduction to the place where their parents work and present different dimensions of working life, including the technical aspects. Our Group also wanted to involve children in our company activities: These 16 year-old teenagers are the workforce of the future!
What were their comments at the end of the day? Let’s read a few…
- “The most important thing for me was to discover the machine my dad works on. Now I’ll understand much better when he talks about it at home.”
- “Personally, I have been very impressed by the size of the machines: some have the power of 250 cars. That’s huge!”
- “Alternating listening and doing made the day a real learning experience.”
