Yet another source of pride for ArcelorMittal AcindarJosé Manuel, one of our colleagues from ArcelorMittal Acindar in Argentina, has a real reason to feel proud. On September 9, 2008, his son Guillermo Marro won a bronze medal in the Beijing Paralympics for his incredible swimming achievements. Let’s get to know Guillermo, how he came to sports and the amazing path that recently led him to China.

Guillermo was born 25 years ago in Pergamino, in the province of Buenos Aires. Since his early childhood, he has suffered from congenital arthrogryposis, which provoked a misalignment of the hips. Following medical advice, Guillermo started swimming when he was only 3. And that’s how his passion began.

At the age of 10, he was already competing in national contests, taking part in his first international competition in 1998, ranking 6th. But he didn’t stop here! He went to the Paralympics of Sydney in 2000, Athens in 2004, winning a bronze and silver medal, before getting his 3rd medal in Beijing.

The whole company is very excited about this success. “When I arrived at the plant, I was congratulated by the management, friends and colleagues”, says José Manuel.

On behalf of all our colleagues around the ArcelorMittal world: Congratulations Guillermo!
