Olympic champions from ArcelorMittal
With the Olympics in full swing, it seems like a good idea to let everyone know that, not only do we have colleagues who know family or friends who are participating – we even have colleagues from around our ArcelorMittal world participating.
An Engineer in Dofasco, Jerry Verbeek’s daughter - Tonya Verbeek, a 30 year old Canadian wrestler, who competed on Friday, August 15, won a bronze medal. She won a silver medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in women’s wrestling in the 55 kg category – Canada’s first woman to medal at the Olympics in wrestling!
There is also Marcus Thätner is a 23 year-old electrical engineering student from Eisenhüttenstadt – who showcases excellent performance, not only in the academic field, but also in sports.
Claudine Frantzen, Assistant to the European Works Council Select Committee, is following the Olympics with special interest because her cousins Franck and Andy Schleck are fighting for an Olympic medal. Both Luxembourgish cyclists are well known for their participation in this year’s Tour de France.
Do you know of other stories involving ArcelorMittal people, through colleagues, relatives or sponsorships, who are connected with the 2008 Summer Olympics? Send us your information – we would love to hear from you!
