Crumbs of Life – Solidarity ‘made in ArcelorMittal’
The sweet baby in the picture is Piotrus Waluga, son of our Polish colleague, Tomek Waluga. Piotrus suffers from spinal muscular atrophy. In spring 2008, employees of ArcelorMittal Poland collected funds to help cover his costly treatment and rehabilitation. Now, people from around the world can contribute to a new bold initiative: Crumbs of Life.
On 19 July, Crumbs of Life – Sportsmen for Piotrus Waluga – will take place with the participation of another Polish colleague, Filip Kuzniak.
The aim of the event is to help support Piotrus’ costly rehabilitation. Money raised through an auction on eBay will be transferred into Piotrus’ account. And what are the items up for sale? Symbolic stones, or ‘Crumbs of Life’, picked up along the way (like bread crumbs) by Filip and his friend Mateusz Maculewicz, during Transalp Challenge 2008 at 20 of the highest Alpine passes en route the famous race. And this is no easy feat! Transalp– one of the toughest sports events in the world, is a 600 km mountain bike race in the Alps.
If you want to contribute to Crumbs of Life (without taking part in the leg-breaking race!) visit www.okruchyzycia.pl and participate in the auction, due to start at the beginning of August.
Good luck in the Transalp, Filip and Mateusz! Whatever your performance there, your track record of caring already gives you every reason to be proud.
