In the light of Sustainability
Our colleagues at ArcelorMittal Tubarão say that emotion is part of the chemical composition of their steel. Let’s discover why with Jackson Duarte, Technical and Production Director of the site for 28 years. Here are some extracts of a memorable interview granted when announcing his retirement:
“The company as a whole is, above all, a social entity. To be sustainable it has to be aligned with the rules of society, which authorises its operation and allows its long term survival. A company exists to contribute, in all aspects, to the evolution of everything that composes and surrounds it: employees, clients, communities, suppliers and the world in general.
A company has to be formed by people with positive beliefs and ideals. Harmony, or the lack of it, will be reflected in the managerial styles and spread out to the teams. The higher you move up on the corporate ladder the more visible you are – you have to lead by example.
The most important thing is to base our actions on ethics. When making mistakes try to do better next time. For example, it is necessary to have the humility to apologise and acknowledge your mistakes.”
Health and Safety has always been a priority for Jackson. And now, he is retiring for Health reasons. Congratulations on your remarkable career in our Group. We wish you the very best for your retirement, Jackson. Muito obrigados for your inspiring example!

First let me pray to the Almighty for sound health of our beloved Mr Jackson Duarte so that he can guide us through his discreet and simple philosophy of life to make our company sustainable for longtime survival and able to maximise contribution to the society.
I joined ArcelorMittal India mainly to get JOB satisfaction which is again to maximise contribution to the society be it mine and/or of my team.
