Helping save lives in Myanmar
On May 3, cyclone Nargis struck the south-west of Myanmar (Burma) causing flooding and massive destruction. As a positive side of the catastrophe, we learn today that the ArcelorMittal Foundation donation of 100,000 euros, announced on May 25, has helped to make the vital work of NGO Save the Children a reality.
78,000 people dead, 2.4 million people affected. And hundreds of people around the world willing to support the victims of the Myanmar disaster, among them, our Group. Through the ArcelorMittal Foundation, 100,000 euros were donated to Save the Children, which has been working in the country for 13 years.
As a matter of principle, the ArcelorMittal Foundation is only active in locations where our Group is present. However, in emergency cases which constitute major disasters affecting a significant number of victims, the support of worldwide corporations such as ArcelorMittal is indispensable to address the size of the damages, and our Group has decided to help as a global corporate citizen.
It is rewarding to learn that, partly thanks to our contribution, 357,007 people have received assistance in the shape of food, water purification tablets, plastic sheeting for shelter and other essential household supplies. Save the Children is also operating 31 child-friendly spaces to give 2,532 children affected by the cyclone somewhere safe to play.
Thanks to Save the Children for transforming the lives of the cyclone’s victims!

Mr. Mittal
Good Morning
I salute you for your generous donation of EU100,000 to Save the Children foundation for relief work efforts in Burma. It is quite a substantial amount compared to donations from other individuals. As a Burmese born in Rangoon and now away from the beloved Golden Land and its beautiful and pitiful people, I would plead to you and through you to other rich philanthropists to donate MORE money to Save the Children, International Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, Dr. Cynthia Maung’s Clinic (at the Thai-Burma border), etc. so that they can carry out more relief work inside Burma and among the helpless and destitute refugees at the Thai-Burma border. I am proud to know that you were born in Burma, too. God Bless You. Best regards. Salim
