From the lab to the plant
Did you know that 50% of the automotive steel used today didn’t exist 5 years ago? We can thank researchers and developers for this achievement and many others just like it.
14 major research centres in Europe, the US, Canada and Brazil are putting Quality and Leadership on track… from the lab to the steel plant. Interestingly, our researchers, representing as many countries as constitute the make-up of our global Company, constantly contribute to knowledge-building across territories. It is not surprising to find more than 20 nationalities in the same lab!
R&D uses a multi-phase process to develop products, from conception to commercialisation. But at ArcelorMittal, R&D is not only 1,400 researchers. Various stakeholders from different functions are involved to assure smooth and efficient transition from one stage of the development process to the next.
R&D teams have ongoing partnerships with other industrial players, communities and universities to build up a powerful network. Of course, all this involves a lot of discipline, knowledge and hard work. So the next time you drive your car, consider the fact that ArcelorMittal’s researchers and developers may well have played their part in developing the steel that went into it!
