ArcelorMittal works closely with its customers to develop next generation steel solutions that will sustain their competitiveness. For the automotive and heavy vehicle industries, it has created new generations of ultra high strength steels that result in a weight reduction of up to 20-30% when compared with conventional steels. This improved fuel consumption benefits both the end-consumer and the environment by reducing the level of CO2 emissions.
In 2008, a new, three-year project will be launched to develop a second-generation ArcelorMittal Body Concept. Its objective is to achieve an extra 20% weight reduction by using Advanced High-Strength steels of the future.
