The steel industry is facing the challenge to support the growing demand for steel while minimising its impact on the environment. ArcelorMittal has the intention of leading its industry towards a global solution against climate change. That’s why it is leading the EU-sponsored ‘Ultra Low CO2 Steelmaking’ (ULCOS) project which aims to develop breakthrough technology in the next 20 to 30 years to reduce CO2 emissions in the steel industry. ULCOS 1 is now in its second phase and is focusing on a range of promising processes.
More targeted initiatives have already received public recognition: ArcelorMittal USA that was the first steel company to receive the Energy Star Partner of the Year Award and ArcelorMittal Hamilton was awarded the Canadian Industry Program for Energy Conservation Energy Efficiency Leadership Award.
