A park in the plant… or vice-versa?We have seen in Episode 6 how our Brazilian people are taking care of the environment. Let’s now take a look at some other “green” initiatives on the other side of the world: from Romania and Urkaine to Kazakhstan, it’s refreshing to see that trees are being planted all around!

“We will have a park in the steel plant or a steel plant in a park.” This descriptive quote from Augustine Kochuparampil, CEO ArcelorMittal Galati, shows to what extent blast furnaces, rolling mills and trees will coexist.

Our Romanian colleagues are starting the second phase of a reforestation programme in the plant and its vicinity: over 1 million trees of different species will be planted in the next 4 to 5 years.

A special occasion, such as a national Environmental Protection Day, can be a good opportunity to put some trees in your life. That’s what we did in Kryviy Rih, in Ukraine: on April 19 2008, 392 trees, 225 bushes and 86 orderly birches were planted around the site (in the picture).

And more recently, in our Kazakh site of Temirtau, local authorities, NGOs and students were the first ones in the Central Kazakhstan region to start the spring season by planting hundreds of trees.

To write a book, to have a child, to plant a tree. We can’t say about the first two important things to do in life, but when it comes to the third, we seem to be right on track!
