Since March 2008, São Francisco do Sul in Brazil’s population has benefited from a third edition of São Francisco in the Movies. The programme has so far raised 18.6 tonnes of food and has provided entertainment for over 29,600 local people.

A simple concept, the programme is a monthly promotion of movie sessions featuring recently released movies, aimed at both children and adult audiences. But instead of paying cash for entry, people pay in non-perishable goods. These are then donated to beneficient entities registered by the Social Welfare Offices of the district.

The headquarters of the event in São Francisco is in the X de Novembro Theater, a cultural area which has been restored and revitalised, integrating the celebration of the 500th Anniversary of the county. Created in 2006, this annual event represents part of the Social Responsibility actions of ArcelorMittal Vega, in association with the ArcelorMittal Foundation.

Collaboration: Joao Bosco, ArcelorMittal Foundation and Tuise Moura, Communications and Social Responsibility Vega
