Boldness can take you to the top of Kilimanjaro
Our colleague Rubén Fernandéz del Corro works at the Asturias site in Spain. In his free time he goes mountain climbing. In December 2007 his boldness took him to the summit of Kilimanjaro, at 5,895 metres of altitude. Before leaving for Tanzania, he asked for an ArcelorMittal flag to place on the ‘Roof of Africa’. Congratulations Rubén for this bold achievement!
Not everything was pleasant, Rubén says: the weather conditions at the end of the climb were hard, but he says that the cold temperatures were compensated by the human warmth he received from the Tanzanians, who welcomed him with open arms.
Rubén’s special thanks are not only for the people of Tanzania, but also to his colleagues at the site, who changed shifts with him last year so he could train for his African adventure. His bosses also understood and support hobbies of their young team.
Rubén has no lucky charm, but he took a picture of his family to the summit (“they climbed with me that day”), our company’s flag… and a strong dose of boldness. Tell us your stories about your own bold adventures!
