Would you say that this image belongs to a steel plant?
This is the first question that I asked myself when, together with other 40 communicators from all over the Americas, I entered the ArcelorMittal Tubarao site, in Brazil, which is hosting a communications meeting these days.
And the answer to the question is… yes, it does! The picture is taken at the Centro de Educaçao Ambiental (Environmental Education Centre), a kind of tropical forest, lake with alligators included, that covers 35,000 square metres of the 7 square kilometres of the Tubarao plant.
At the environmental centre, our Brazilian colleagues entertain and educate for Sustainability politicians, schools, journalists, NGOs and members of the community who come to visit the site. And what a better place to welcome them? As Sidemberg Rodrigues, Communication and Corporate Responsibility Manager of ArcelorMittal Tubarao, says: “Sustainability begins at home.”
Just in case you wonder, the site does produce steel (flat products) and more than 8,000 employees and contractors work here. Although thousands of kilometers away, here the people, the atmosphere and the surroundings really make me feel at home. Muito obrigada!

That’s really a place when we can feel the environment around us.

… And I was amazed to learn that Tubarao is not the only plant where you can feel the environment around you in such a strong way. Help me learn more about other magical places in our steel world!
