ArcelorMittal South Africa AIDS project South Africa is one of Africa’s strongest economies, but the HIV pandemic has weakened the nation: over 20% of the population aged between 15 and 49 is HIV positive. ArcelorMittal, with four industrial sites in the country, is supporting a project to provide services and programmes to hundreds of persons living with AIDS on the West Coast in Saldanha Bay.

Thousands of clients and families infected or affected by HIV are benefiting from this project: students, young and old people, unemployed…

The main services provided in the framework of this project are home-based care services, HIV Counselling and testing, support group sessions once a week, meals, clothing, food parcels and psychosocial support, jobs for unemployed clients and families through the beads and sewing project, food garden project and home-based care project as well as annual and monthly awareness activities. A huge number of people of all ages benefits from these actions in line with ArcelorMittal’s motto of ‘transforming tomorrow’.

Collaboration: Nomsa Skweyiya, ArcelorMittal Saldanha; Francis Langenfeld, ArcelorMittal Foundation
