New ladle furnace at ArcelorMittal Hunedoara (Romania)
The Romanian site ArcelorMittal Hunedoara has a new ladle furnace. The works started in September 2007 with the foundation and building of the metallic structure. The working platforms and stairs were placed on position shortly after. The control room, electrical room, hydraulic and pump room were prepared to install the equipment… and the inauguration was a success!
The main components such as the aluminium electrode arms, guiding roller units for electrodes, the roof lifting arm and the hydraulic system were provided by Badische Stahl Engineering from Kehl, in Germany.
The new ladle furnace has a capacity of 125t, tap-to-tap time of between 60 to 72 minutes. The heating time is 4°C/min and the electrode diameter 400 mm.

It’s nice to see that ArcelorMittal are starting to invest in Hunedoara. Hope to see some upgrades to the EAF and rolling mills especially. Also a new oxygen plant would be nice as the one still operating was started around 1964. Keep up the good work and maintain the tradition of steel making in Hunedoara, a tradition that is over 2000 years old.
