It is heartening to see investment once again going to Yekepa but I think Mittal will have to do an awful lot better to even come close to the LAMCO era, speaking as someone who lived there at that time. I don’t think 1.5 billion dollars will be enough.

After watching this clip, I cannot express how proud I am to work for a company that is making this kind of difference in poor nations around the world. I hope the story in Liberia can be repeated for other African nations in the future.

I was very lucky to have grown up in Nimba. My father worked for LAMCO the company which run the original mine, hospital and schools. I was a great place and it was heart breaking to see it closed, overgrown and unloved. I know that a speek for everyone who ever lived or visited when I say thank you to ArcelorMittal for not only mining but to have spent so much time, thought and money on returning it to it former glory. They have reopened hospitals & schools and are taking care of the people who have sufferd so much. I know that it will not only be iron ore being shipped out but there will be loads of us original Nimba expats who will return not only to work but also to come “home” for a visit.

Development and sustainability is all about good governance and private sector investment, as long as this interaction prioritizes the well being of the Liberian people. Education should be free, and so access to at least basic primary and secondary health services for workers and district population.

After watching the clip on what this great investor is beginning to do and plans to do in the future, wow, I foresee Liberia becoming the envy of nations. I am very appreciative of ArcelorMittal investments and commitment to Liberia. It will help to jump start the Liberian economy and bring hope to the many unemployed.
It will also open the door for other investors to come in and partake in the many investments opportunities in Liberia.
