ArcelorMittal Foundation awarded (Brazil)

Two social projects supported by the ArcelorMittal Foundation in Tubarão, Brazil, were awarded by the Brazilian National Bank CEF as two excellent examples of best practices to improve the quality of life for the communities. Among the criteria for choosing the winners were Sustainability, Leadership and a strengthening of innovation in the local context.
Projects from throughout the country competed for the awards. The two winning projects supported by the ArcelorMittal Foundation in Tubarão are the only ones from the Southeast Region of Brazil to be selected.
The project “Local Leaders’ Group” implements actions that contribute to the improvement in the quality of life of the inhabitants in the city of Vila Velha, whereas the project “Banco Bem – Micro-Credit methodology” aims to foment solidarity enterprises that offer work and income opportunities for the inhabitants of Poligonal. It contributes to reducing poverty and encourages consumption and local and sustainable development.
The Ten Best Practices to be chosen will compete in Dubai for the international award “Best Practices and Local Leadership Programme” sponsored by the United Nations.
