‘Transforming tomorrow’ by planting trees (Romania)

ArcelorMittal Galati, Romania, is launching a reforestation programme, under which the company will plant one million different species of trees inside and near the steel plant over the next 4 to 5 years.
In the first phase of the project, ArcelorMittal will reforest 20 hectares within the plant. In the second phase trees will be planted in locations in the vicinity of the company. For this ArcelorMittal Galati will get help from expert institutions and specialised companies and the trees will be under permanent surveillance and care.
The project aims at fertilizing the soil, increasing the water retaining capacity and the vegetation support, thus helping to improve the living conditions for the employees, their families and the entire county.
This year, ArcelorMittal Galati is in progress of implementing 64 environmental projects, worth $53 million, including those under the Conformation Programme agreed with the National Environment Guard.
