ArcelorMittal Warszawa is investing €50 million in a new rebar rolling mill to cater to soaring demand from the Polish construction industry. The new 650,000 tpy rebar mill is scheduled to start production in Q1 2008.

A spokesman from ArcelorMittal Warszawa commented that the Polish construction market was entering a stage of dynamic development as a result of its membership in the European Union and the increasing investments in its infrastructure, adding that 40 percent of the Polish construction market was located in Warsaw and central Poland.

ArcelorMittal Warszawa operates an 80 tonne electric arc furnace and a 4 strand continuous caster, and billet from the meltshop will feed the new rebar mill supplied by Italian plantmaker Daniell. It will be fed by a 160 tonne per heat Daniell Centro Combustion walking hearth reheating furnace, which will be directly connected to the existing continuous caster for direct hot charging of billets.

ArcelorMittal purchased the company, formerly known as Huta Lucchini Warszawa, from Lucchini in August 2005.
