On December 5 2007, a commemorative plaque was fixed to the world’s tallest viaduct, in recognition of this steel structure’s elegance and its cutting-edge construction made possible by an innovative launching system.

Displayed prominently in ArcelorMittal’s “boldness changes everything” campaign, the Millau Viaduct is a beautiful structure that complements the environment in which it stands. It was honoured by the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE) in recognition of being the tallest bridge in the world, but is also greatly admired for its elegance.

The Outstanding Structure Award, created in 2000, recognises the most remarkable, innovative, creative, or otherwise stimulating structures completed within the last few years or mostly completed at the time of the award ceremony.

The use of steel enabled the thickness of the bridge’s deck to be reduced, thus diminishing its visual footprint. The choice of ArcelorMittal as a supplier made it possible to reduce by one month the time required to bring this structure into service.
