Workshop with NGOs in ArcelorMittal Temirtau (Kazakhstan)
On Friday November 30, ArcelorMittal Temirtau, in Kazakhstan, organised a workshop with the main local NGOs, as part of the company’s strategy to improve stakeholders’ dialogue.
A delegation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) attended the workshop and visited various social investments of ArcelorMittal in Temirtau (children’s centre, Kazakh cultural centre, Metallurgical Institute, stadium, sport complex, children summer camps…).
Formal steps have been decided to enhance stakeholders’ engagement mechanisms. Among these are the appointment of a “liaison officer” for regular relationship with NGOs, quarterly reviews with the stakeholders and a dedicated website for releasing relevant information on Environment, Health and Safety performance and the relationship with communities.
Satish Taparia, CEO of ArcelorMittal Temirtau, said that ArcelorMittal had always believed in sharing the benefits of economic growth amongst all the stakeholders and that with this NGO workshop they now had a structured platform for the engagement of the stakeholders.
