In the company of President Lula of Brazil and HRH Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg, Mr Mittal announced on 29 November the completion of the expansion project at ArcelorMittal Tubarao. With its new state-of-the-art facilities, steel capacity at the plant has increased by 50% to 7.5 million tons, thanks to one of the fastest expansion programmes the Group has ever completed.

ArcelorMittal Brasil really lives up the ArcelorMittal brand values of Sustainability, Quality and Leadership. With its exceptional work towards environmental performance and Corporate Social Responsibility, ArcelorMittal Tubarao was setting the standards for the performance ArcelorMittal wanted to reach throughout the company, said Mr Mittal.

In his inauguration speech, Mr Mittal spoke of his commitment to support Brazil’s growing economy and invest in the future of its people. In the Tubarao site, for example, ArcelorMittal has built a butterfly farm, where every day classes from the local schools come to learn about nature and the protection of the environment.
