On October 8, 2007, only three months after Liberia’s President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, participated in the company’s brand launch, a high level team of senior Corporate Executives led by Malay Mukherjee made a two day visit to the country to meet with the President and conclude contracts that will strengthen the progress of ArcelorMittal’s company’s Iron Ore Mine Development Project.

“The project will not only show growth in Liberia but will demonstrate what an African nation is capable of doing,” said Malay, adding that ArcelorMittal has resolved to expedite all the facilities that are required for the project and to build up the skills of local people with a focus on creating a condition where everyone will gain or benefit from the project.

ArcelorMittal has signed and awarded several contracts. Road rehabilitation has since commenced, while a school building and 250 housing units for staff have been completed.

The ArcelorMittal team of executives also met with President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf during their assessment visit.

I want to say thanks to the Executives of ArcelorMittal for the job well done so far within Liberia. I hope and pray that it shouldn’t be the first and last because I had heard lot of companies coming in with big plans and can only implements little of their plans. As our resources are being extracted, I look forward to the company for implementing the Liberianization Policy and allow Liberians to benefit fully from available jobs that a Liberian is capable of doing.
