On September 7, ArcelorMittal Asturias signed a labour agreement defining the minimum services to be guaranteed in the hot phase facilities in the event of a strike of the subcontracted companies, which employ about 3,000 workers in the Group’s Asturian units. The covenant stipulates that, if a strike is called by the unions, said facilities will continue to operate at 70% of their production rate, so as to avoid damage to the installations.

Three years ago the management of the company and the union representatives signed a similar agreement, which is currently in force and affects the employees of ArcelorMittal. That agreement was a pioneer initiative in Spain.

The signing ceremony was attended by Graciano Torre, regional Minister of Industry of the Principality of Asturias, who said that the agreement would mark an inflection point in the regulation of labour relations in the companies, adding that it would not lessen the legal right to strike, but that it would contribute to the prevention of serious damage to the facilities and to preserve the future of the company.
