The opening of the new hot strip mill in Cracow was “an exceptional success,” state the members of the Group Management Board in a letter to the personnel of ArcelorMittal Poland.

July 27, 2007 was the first day in the new history of four ArcelorMittal Poland steel mills. Former Polish President Lech Walesa and Member of the ArcelorMittal Group Management Board Michael Wurth were among the thousand of attendees to the opening ceremony of the new hot strip mill in Cracow, together with contractors, investment general contractors, journalists, representatives of scientific circles and of the Church, but above all, a considerable group of employees of all four units!

This event marks the next extremely important day in the company’s history – the merger of two steel tycoons, Arcelor and Mittal Steel. “The new hot strip mill is the jewel in the crown of the investment programme which ArcelorMittal has been implementing since we acquired the then Polskie Huty Stali in 2004,” said Michel Wurth, Member of the Group Management Board of ArcelorMittal.

The press briefing of the opening ceremony of the hot strip mill aroused a strong interest of the national, regional and international media.
