ArcelorMittal holds the 61st position on this year’s FT Global 500, the Financial Times’ annual snapshot of the world’s largest companies, published on June 29. With a market value of 94,062.2 million dollars, ArcelorMittal is the first company of the industrial metals sector on the list.

The companies are ranked by market capitalisation, which means the share price multiplied by the number of shares issued in the market. The day chosen for the calculation was March 30, 2007. This 11th annual ranking of the FT Global 500 includes all companies where the free float – the number of shares in market circulation – is at least 15%. Companies with very large state or family holdings are therefore excluded. Unquoted lines of stock are also excluded.

This 61st position in one of the rankings of reference for the largest corporations of the world recognises ArcelorMittal’s leadership in the market as an integrated company. In fact, it represents a clear evolution with regards to the position achieved before the merger: Arcelor ranked 280 in last year’s FT Global 500, while Mittal Steel did not appear on the list.
