On Tuesday June 5, ArcelorMittal Gent was presented with the East-Flanders Environmental Charter for the 4th consecutive year.

The Environmental Charter is an initiative of the East-Flanders Chamber of Commerce intending to encourage companies in East-Flanders to pursue an active environmental policy, with an eye towards continuously improving their environmental performances as well as the living conditions in the surrounding areas.

Only those companies that go beyond the statutory obligations for improving their environmental performances are eligible for this recognition. An evaluation team composed of representatives of several environmental authorities had visited ArcelorMittal Gent to verify whether the submitted 2006 Environmental Charter programme had been realised. They also made certain that our organisation operates in accordance with environmental regulations.

This award is highly valuable to ArcelorMittal Gent as it is a public recognition for our commitment towards Sustainable Development.
