Arcelor Mittal South Africa announced a 155,000 $ contract with the Bergrivier Association for Persons with Disabilities (BADP) to service and clean the caster equipment at Saldanha Steel.

48 persons with disabilities will directly and indirectly benefit from the 3-year contract by cleaning and sorting various spares and equipment.

BADP serves as a pro-active forum for the advancement of persons with physical disabilities so as to enable them to attain their maximum integration into the community.

Rick Reato, CEO of Mittal Steel South Africa, said awarding the contract forms part of Arcelor Mittal South Africa’s commitment to helping improve the lives of the communities in which it operates. The corporate social investment programme at Saldanha Steel is aimed at addressing the key focus areas of job creation, education, HIV/Aids and poverty alleviation.
