Louis Schorsch, Arcelor Mittal’s chief of flat products in America, was awarded the Gary Memorial medal at the recent annual meeting of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). He got the medal for his “remarkable lifelong contributions to the North American steel industry”.

Schorsch, who holds a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and a doctorate in economics from American University, spent most of his career as an analyst of the steel industry and as a consultant to steelmakers worldwide.

He was appointed president and CEO of Ispat Inland, one of Mittal USA’s predecessor companies, in October 2003. Schorsch became president of Mittal Steel USA in January 2006 after being selected as the company’s CEO the previous year.
He is the immediate past chairman of AISI.
