Arcelor Mittal Brazil is signing its commitment to the environment by sponsoring a major initiative in defense of nature: the Genesis project held by photographer Sebastiao Salgado.

Scheduled to be finished in 2012, this project has entered its fourth year and will be the largest archive of black-and-white images of wild nature, with photographs of untouched regions of the planet. The project consists in an educational initiative in collaboration with the UNESCO, which converts the photos into free teaching material about the environment for children.

The project being born from the urgent need to prevent the increasing degradation of nature, Salgado has already photographed locations worldwide. The results of his adventures are exhibited on a gradual basis. The final format Salgado wishes to give to the project is an exhibition in an open space. In 2012, Central Park in New York will be one of the presentation locations.
