Michel Wurth visiting Avilés (Spain)
The progress achieved in the projects currently being implemented in Arcelor Mittal’s factory in Avilés (Asturias) was the main focus of the visit made in April by a delegation from the Flat Carbon Western Europe management team, headed by Michel Wurth, member of the GMB responsible for Flat Carbon Steel Europe, Plates, Automotive and R&D.
The visit started in the Upstream facilities. The LD steel plant managers presented the production ratios of the last few months and reviewed the modernisation projects that are being carried out, coinciding with the current scheduled downturn of one of the two Arcelor Mittal blast furnaces in Asturias.
In the Downstream area, a general review was made of the current projects. Finally, Packaging Avilés presented its profitability plan for one of its strategic products – DWI tinplate, designed for the beverage can market – and provided updated information on the progress of its transformation project aimed at improving performance and increasing productivity.
Mr Wurth was accompanied in this visit by the executives in charge of the competence domains within FCWE, Pierre Gugliermina (Downstream Flat Carbon Steel Western Europe and Packaging Europe) and Robrecht Himpe (Upstream Flat Carbon Steel Western Europe), as well as by Hans Kerkhoven (FCE Finance and Business Management) and Carl de Mare (Continuous Improvement, Technical Configuration and Optimisation).
