In working towards being the most admired steel institution in the world, we’ve been identifying successful synergies amongst our collective Americas. We have launched a number of collaborative efforts to research and share knowledge so that we can better manage our business. Leaders at all levels have been strengthening these America partnerships and we’ve been participating in important knowledge exchange discussions.

Earlier in the year US executives visited Brazilian operations at CST and Vega do Sol to identify and build on best practices throughout the region. Predominantly, focus was on technology advancements, operation techniques and processes that will reinforce and enhance procedure and product development. For instance a key area of interest is Brazil’s success with extending blast furnace campaigns and their advanced techniques for energy conservation.

Brazil, in return, have sent a team of engineers to operations in the US including the Indiana Harbor works, Burns Harbor and the Research & Development Center.

This active engagement between workforces of sharing ideas aims to achieve higher productivity, drive product improvements and enhance operational capabilities. Through continued integration and knowledge sharing we can strengthen out positions as leaders in product development and manufacturing efficiencies.

Furthermore with this information being shared globally it will enable people in our Research and Development teams to implement sound research and technology developments. This will keep us competitive and increase our profitability. It is in collaborative partnering where we will see the added value as we move away from simply selling steel – to selling complete engineering solutions
