Italian site reaches 2,000 accident-free days
On Monday 19th February the site of San Mango sul Calore in Italy reached 2000 consecutive days with no reported accidents.
The success can be attributed to the competence, professional skills and active role taken on by the entire Avellino site’s employees’ temporary workers and contractor employees.
A number of actions have focused on the facilities and the employees with the aims of increasing safety awareness and making safety a ‘mindset’ and way of life at the site.
This clear commitment demonstrated by the Management and all the employees has made it possible for the former Tubisud site to achieve and consolidate this ‘zero accidents’ target.
Over a 5 year period (2001-2006) 5,064 hours of safety training has been provided of which 2,587 was between 2005 and 2006. There is 1,102 hours of training planned for 2007.
Additionally in this period, there were over 2,900 safety improvement activities promoting accident prevention. This year 400 safety initiatives are scheduled including participation GESIM sessions, “Shared Vigilance” training, Health & Safety Convention and the activities oriented towards achievement of OHSAS 18001 certification.
The company wide campaign is supported by specific investment of around €2million of which €1million was spent in the period of 2005 – 2006. This year the expenditure on Safety will be around 700,000.
For the site at Mango sul Calore they will celebrate their success at the Arcelor Mittal Worldwide Health & Safety Day on the 6th March.
